How insurance works

Insurance can be frustrating to understand. Here is a brief summary:

Each insurance company has different plans. Your plan is specific to you and what choices your/spouses'/parents' company has provided (if any).  To find out what your plan covers and what you might be responsible for out-of-pocket, you will want to call the number on the back of your card and ask the following:

1) Tell them: I am calling to ask about my in-network, out-patient behavioral health benefits.

2) What is my deductible? This is the amount you will need to pay out of pocket before your benefits kick in.

3) Do I need to meet my deductible for my behavior health benefit to cover my sessions?

4) Do I have a copay?

For each insurance, I am credentialed for an adjusted rate. While I submit my full-fee to insurance when I send in a claim, you will only be responsible for the adjusted rate if you are meeting a deductible. If you desire a more exact understanding of your personal fees, I am happy to tell you about the specifics after you talk to your insurance company.
